Court Ordered Timeline for redistricting MI House Districts (1,7,8,10,11,12,14)

  •  February 2, 2023:  Deadline for the Michigan Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission (MICRC) to draw new state House Districts
  • February 23, 2023:  End of the public comment period for the House maps
  • March 1, 2023:  Deadline for the MICRC to submit the final House map to the court
  • March 8, 2023:  Deadline for the plaintiffs to file any objections to the plan with the court
  • March 15, 2023:  Deadline for the court-appointed expert to submit a review of the commission’s work
  • March 29, 2023:  Court date set for implementing new House maps.  The court left open the option of using a plan drawn by a court-appointed expert if they deem the comission’s work insufficient.
  • April 23, 2023:  Filing deadline for candidates in new state House districts

Court Ordered Timeline for redistricting MI Senate Districts (1, 3, 6, 8, 10, 11)

  • April 12, 2023:  Court reconvenes to determine next steps on redrawing state Senate maps.

Special MI House District Elections April 16, 2024 to replace Democrat seats in Districts 13 and 25

The special elections in Michigan’s 13th and 25th House districts on April 16, 2024, are being held to fill the seats vacated by Democratic state Representatives Lori Stone and Kevin Coleman, who both resigned after winning mayoral elections in 2023.  The departure of these representatives left the Michigan House of Representatives in a 54-54 deadlock, eliminating the Democrats’ two-seat majority.  Winners will serve the remainder of the term, ending January 1, 2025.

District 13 candidates are:

  • Democrat – Mai Xiong – a Macomb County Commissioner
  • Republican – Ronald Singer – an engineer

District 25 candidates are:

  • Democrat – Peter Herzbert – Member of the Westland City Council
  • Republican – Josh Powell – IT worker and veteran of the U.S. Army
